Trip report for August 16th - Fawn River
15 paddlers and 2 dogs made Sunday’s paddle with excellent weather and a good breeze to keep the bugs at bay. After a hearty breakfast at Chubby’s we made the short trip to the put in at the fish hatchery to unload and set shuttle. Much to our surprise the water level was quite low with evidence that they had raised the dam recently. The first mile was a exercise in reading water to avoid getting out of your boat and leading it to deeper water. One must remember that the Fawn is a very clean river and stepping out can lead to finding that the water is a lot deeper than you think….leading to the ……..tipping of your craft……and filling it with water, nuff said. Lots of wild life was observed as was colorful berries, water flowers, fall flowers, and river otter feeding activity. Big surprise was the amount of aquatic weeds that were growing in the lower part of the river, sometimes clear across the river tho they posed no problem in paddling. Bucket award was given to Joe S. and came full of beer, see picture.
